A social group for carers of learning disabled and autistic adults
We make life better by providing safe and inclusive social opportunities with other carers who ‘get it’.
Choose from coffee mornings, dinners out, park walks, a choir, a fitness club and regular information events on useful topics.
We also share information and experiences to help you navigate the system. If getting time away is hard, join the chat on our lively WhatsApp group.
Our members are all ages, abilities, cultures and identities. Everyone is welcome.
Thursday Coffee Morning
Every Thursday we meet for coffee and chat at Sherard Road Day Centre in Eltham from 10.30 to 12.30am. It’s a drop-in so people come when they can. We love our kitchen space which is really cosy.
There are art materials to craft with if you feel like it. If you are less confident just sit back with a drink and listen to the chat. If getting away is difficult, bring your loved one with you.
Dinners Out
We really enjoy getting together for dinner. Once every couple of months we book a large table somewhere local and inexpensive. New carers are welcome. It is a really good way to make friends. It is also lovely to meet the person you care for, so feel free to bring them along too!
Greenwich Carers Voices
Sing your favourite songs with other carers! From pop classics to the Greatest Showman, Abba and Adele; it doesn’t matter if you think you can’t sing, we welcome complete beginners.
Our professional choir leader will help you get the best out of your voice. It’s a relaxed, informal session and a lot of fun.
Joining is free for Carers Social Group members.
Park Walks
Sometimes it is easier to share your worries when you are walking together. We take regular walks through the many beautiful green spaces in the borough.
The route is always step free and gentle for all abilities. We enjoy seeing the passing of the seasons and spotting interesting flowers and park animals. Loved ones are very welcome.
Fitness Group
Caring for your loved one can be physically and mentally demanding so it’s important to look after your own health.
We get together at the Eltham Centre on a Tuesday morning, and at the Better Leisure Centre Plumstead and other centres around the borough.
We love dance fit, the spa and simply walking on the treadmill while chatting! It’s fun, therapeutic and helps us to keep fit and strong.
We have a special WhatsApp group in which we encourage each other to get a little healthier and share tips. If you can’t make a class just join in with the chat and we will encourage you, wherever you are on your fitness journey.
“It is such a relief to talk to other carers who really understand”
